UNPOSTED

You send your vehicle for servicing with a list of complaints…

when you get the vehicle back you realise that one of the complaints has been overlooked and to add to that, some other wire hasn’t been connected properly… so, now there’s a new problem…

so you take it back fro service…you work again, for the oversight and inefficiency of the service personnel. The computer network goes down. The hardware engineer presses all the chips on the board… Oh ho… it’s working…nut only till he’s there. After he leaves, the printer interface, which was working until then, stops working.

We introduce technology to solve some of the problems in the organisation, and now we have an added problem. Even without having to go to the forests or the Himalayas on a penance, we realise we are surrounded by enough people who help develop saintly tolerance in us…after all, what you can’t cure you have to endure.

The search is for experts who are expert enough. I grew up in a world where my sixth standard kannada teacher knew enough to start a kannada University; my family physician knew so much that one could easily mistake him for a paediatrician cum cardiologist cum neurologist. We may be living in the ‘Information Age’ but, believe me it hurts to know that save a minority, we are far too satisfied with shallow knowledge. Even before we are student enough, we begin to think we are teachers… even before we have apprenticed enough, we begin to think we are experts. The thirst for in-depth knowledge is dying. In almost all field, we don’t have enough expert who are expert enough.

Hence, the few who go deeper, and even deeper, in their chosen professions, vocations and expressions will rule the tomorrow…
